About us

HS2 Ltd is developing and promoting the UK's new high speed railway network

Solihull's Interchange Station will be at the centre of the high speed railway network HS2 Ltd will build.

Who we are

High Speed Two (HS2) Ltd is the company building Britain’s new high speed railway. We are a public company, owned entirely by the Department for Transport.

With our contractors, we are laying 345 miles of brand new track connecting the North, Midlands and South, helping to bring Britain closer together.

The project is split into phases, with Phase One now underway between the West Midlands and London and Phase Two planned to extend the line further north towards Manchester and Leeds. HS2 trains will continue running on the existing rail network towards Newcastle and Scotland, stopping at over 25 stations in total, including eight of Britain’s ten largest cities.

There are three main benefits of HS2:

  • Connectivity – better transport links between our cities and regions is bringing more investment to the Midlands and North, helping to level up the country
  • Capacity – taking inter-city trains off the existing rail network will free up more space for commuter and freight services, helping to relieve overcrowding and take lorries off the road.
  • Carbon – HS2 will be the low carbon option for long distance travel, emitting 17 times less carbon than the equivalent domestic flight and 7 times less carbon than the equivalent car journey.
