With HS2 trains set to serve both Newcastle and Durham

the North East Combined Authority (NECA) and the North East Local Enterprise Partnership (NELEP) are working to ensure high speed rail supports the region’s future.

HS2 will serve Durham

It will integrate with Northern Powerhouse Rail and local transport. This will help relieve congestion, improve reliability and speed up journey times. Newcastle to Birmingham will come down to just 2 hours.

Durham to:

  • East Midlands Hub, HS2 time 82 minutes
  • Birmingham, HS2 time 103 minutes, current time 159 minutes
  • London, HS2 time 138 minutes, current time 170 minutes

HS2 will drive Durham’s growth

HS2 services will support Durham’s ambition to double employment in its thriving tourism sector. Durham County Council plans to capitalise on the arrival of HS2, by development of the business quarter near the station. A new business park at Aykley Heads will provide 70,000 square metres of new office space that could deliver over 6,000 jobs.
